This article from The Guardian is a good read for Terry Pratchett fans:

Finished this recently, started slow but got really good. Have started on the prequel, which so far is even better. The plot in both books seems to pick up pace after the first act and then move very very fast - pretty sure it's been done this way for eventual adaptation into a film trilogy.. |

Is Shift anything like The Passage? I liked that and I see the Justin Cronin quote on the cover.

Haven't read the passage but yeah it seems like there are some similarities based on the description on wikipedia.
The suggested reading order is Wool, Shift, Dust. |

Chur, sounds like it's worth a look and will take your "starts slow" warning on board

Doing a Culture marathon right now, started at Phlebas, working forward by publication date.

^ looks interesting.. is the reading order by publication date for any special reason?

Haha just picked up Player of Games (again) to read on the bus (and in between tutorials).
Going by publication date could be a cool way to approach them. Pixie

I re-read Consider Phlebas earlier in the year. It must be the year to start again. Excession is my favourite too.
I'm re-reading Thief of Time at the moment, as well as The Unfinished Clue, by Georgette Heyer, and am considering tackling the Harry Potter books again.

I just finished The Martian last night. Completing a book in 2 days is probably a personal record. It really was that good. I've never been so emotionally involved in a character before.
Thanks Monza |

Same guy who wrote the Martian wrote the short story 'The Egg.' Author has an pretty cool story. First Novel, originally self published on Amazon for 99c gets picked up by Random House Publishing after some great buzz. Book then gets optioned by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, World War Z) as the writer then Ridley Scott becomes attached as the Director. Now it's in production with Matt Damon, Jessica Chastian, Kata Mara, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover & Michael Pena in it.
Great book. |
