This article from The Guardian is a good read for Terry Pratchett fans:

Finished this recently, started slow but got really good.

Have started on the prequel, which so far is even better.

The plot in both books seems to pick up pace after the first act and then move very very fast - pretty sure it's been done this way for eventual adaptation into a film trilogy..

Is Shift anything like The Passage? I liked that and I see the Justin Cronin quote on the cover.

Haven't read the passage but yeah it seems like there are some similarities based on the description on wikipedia.

The suggested reading order is Wool, Shift, Dust.

Haha just picked up Player of Games (again) to read on the bus (and in between tutorials).

Going by publication date could be a cool way to approach them.

Everything from Phlebas to Excession is great imo, but the back end of the series (Inversions to Hydrogen Sonata) is slightly weaker. I didn't care much for Surface Detail. I'd say Excession is my favourite of the lot.

I re-read Consider Phlebas earlier in the year. It must be the year to start again. Excession is my favourite too.

I'm re-reading Thief of Time at the moment, as well as The Unfinished Clue, by Georgette Heyer, and am considering tackling the Harry Potter books again.

I tried back here but obviously failed.

PA announcement : READ THIS BOOK NOW

Hardcore real science set in Mars using today's technology. There is no <insert futuristic name here> device that can get the protagonist out of a jam, he has to use science and explain it in a very detailed yet entertaining way.

The less you know about this book the better, just go fucken read it!

Yet another wallet-emptier. Just glad eBooks are 1/3 the price of physical as I would still purchase.

I just finished The Martian last night. Completing a book in 2 days is probably a personal record. It really was that good. I've never been so emotionally involved in a character before.

Thanks Monza

Same guy who wrote the Martian wrote the short story 'The Egg.' Author has an pretty cool story. First Novel, originally self published on Amazon for 99c gets picked up by Random House Publishing after some great buzz. Book then gets optioned by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, World War Z) as the writer then Ridley Scott becomes attached as the Director. Now it's in production with Matt Damon, Jessica Chastian, Kata Mara, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover & Michael Pena in it.

Great book.
