It doesn't seem any weirder than having to bleed once a month. Bleeding which will synchronise with the woman highest on the social pecking order that you live amongst.

1997 Unicol Otago University. Co-ed floors. Co-ed shower/toilets. Mid way through the year Every loo with the red smear. 6 of the girls would be more than a little unstable for a few days. Every dirty plate was a capital offence Late night music was always too loud (regardless of volume) Everything (if a guy did it) was "wrong" the vibe was that something could go very wrong very soon. This would repeat every month until end of year exams. *shudder*

I've heard that one, and variations on the theme, but never seen the slightest evidence of it in the real world. I imagine minimising the hormonal fug for a household would rock though.[/QUOTE] oh hell yes this is true. my wife, her 2 sisters, and 4 younger neices, ALL rag at the same time. not everyone lived in the same house, but they are only 2 houses away, and were always over. Her oldest sister even went through "the change" (46 years old) when she was living alone.. 6 months later, she moved back into the house of females... and even started her period again. its weird.. but its so very true. edit: not sure about them syncing with the "highest on pecking order" though... |

To everyone re. coordinated menses: Yeah, I've heard it happens for other people, but not with me, my mother, my sister, and a string of flatmates and lodgers*. I've lived for years at a time with other women, and never seen it. Their bodies just don't respond to me. My system certainly doesn't respond to others' cycles.
* They may experience it with other women. |

Most women are on 28 day cycles, give or take a week or so either way. As such, women will be in sync some times, and out of sync other times. The concept that they're all obeying the pheromones of some self-appointed alpha female is a well debunked urban legend.

Ok, lets put it this way. With as little "ew" as possible.
Being raised in a completely matriarchal household with 6 other females, we'd have times when all were synchronised, and then it would go back to being 2 days out, 4 days out, 6 days out, etc. This also happens in office environments with females who feel free to discuss their menstrual cycles, the period (no pun intended) of being "in sync" with each other doesn't last longer than a few months. That said, certain things have also been known to cause womens cycles to synchronise longer than usual, stress being a leading factor as it delays ovulation. In cryocore's university environment when every female had their period (and really terrible hygiene too, from the sound of it) this could well have been caused by mid-term exams. Stress happens, menstruation stops, and when stress is over, menstruation begins again with every female now being on the same 28(ish) day cycle. Hell begins for everything male in the building. So yes, synchronisation can happen, but Lightspeeds pheromone theory is bollocks. |

I've always held that theory as being truth. I haven't been completely convinced that it isn't, definitely will need to talk to some girls about it me thinks.
