Not only that they did the unthinkable and got rid of the Liberator (which at the time was canon for any serial space based sci-fi - must have flash ship ala enterprise) and replaced it with a beaten up old transport ship. Worked bloody well too...

Band of Brothers

In March this year, World War II miniseries Band of Brothers featured an episode which, eight minutes into the 8.30pm TVOne programme, featured a sex scene between an American soldier and a German woman.

Melanie Riwai-Couch of Christchurch complained that TVNZ should have edited out the scene because it was shown at a time when children were still "up and about".

TVNZ did not uphold the complaint because the programmed was classified Adults Only and had been preceded by a verbal and written warning.

The complainant referred the matter to the BSA, which ruled the scene breached the standard of children's interests.

"In our view," ruled the BSA, "the broadcaster should have exercised greater discretion with respect o the sex scene considering its strong adult content and close proximity to the 8.30pm watershed."

Standard 9 (children's interests), requires broadcasters to consider the interests of child viewers during their normally accepted viewing times, usually up to 8.30pm, and to also ensure that strong adult material is not shown soon after the 8.30pm AO watershed.
No orders were given as the BSA said the decision served as a reminder to TVNZ to exercise discretion when choosing what to broadcast close to the 8.30pm AO watershed.

Ok so I was intrigued enough to actually go and read the standard (since who can trust reporters amirite?)

Here's a relevant ctrl-c-ctrl-v.

AO - 9.30pm – Adults Only 9.30pm - 5am.
Programmes containing stronger material or special elements which fall outside the AO classification. These programmes may contain a greater degree of sexual activity, potentially offensive language, realistic violence, sexual violence, or horrific encounters.

Also:

9c Broadcasters should have regard to the fact that children tend to:

* stay up later than usual on Friday and Saturday nights and during school and public holidays and,
* watch television through to midday on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and during school and public holidays.

There's even something in the actual standard about not showing anything tooooo adult right after 8:30pm.

So that actual complaint was really quite reasonable, on a 'breaching the broadcasting standards' approach. Just, y'know, shit for other reasons.

I found the box of old school lego I was looking for too, but am still tracking down the meccano.. My brother still has lots of the original transformers still in their boxes.. and we have lots of Ultraman and other japanese toys somewhere.. I also found my smurf collection and box of barbie dolls and their furniture..so I did have girly stuff too I guess.
