Watched it last night. Very interesting. Some very good information.
Only negatives were some of the graphical/animation fillers. But it's all about the info anyway. |

Just started reading this book...
Given I've read similiar works as part of my philosophy study at uni I find the tone he has used to be pretty poor. He uses too much emotion, subjectivity. Makes you argue against that man rather than his thoughts. At the start he asserts arguing against religion is fruitless. Maybe he should of stuck with that. |

Well he just won Author of the Year, so doubt he's too worried about negative reviews at this point.

I was testing out my youngest son by asking him the old zen koan "Whats the sound of one hand clapping" I asked him last night and tonight he still hadn't worked it out and he refused to go to sleep without me telling him. He even at one point said it was impossible and aked me if god knew. I got interupted by the wife who told me to stop tormenting him so we didn't have the "do you believe in god talk". I eventually got him calmed down and he worked out the answer. He complained bitterly that it was a hard question and I said thinking to myself that there wasn't anything that he could ask me that I didn't know "Ask me a hard question I bet I know the answer" and he asked me where the earth and people came from!
I'm halfway through the book. The beginning was really good but the middle has been hard work. I'll probably finish it over the weekend. |

Koan's are just made to make you think. Going by the conversation I had afterward it worked. When I said I didn't know where the Earth and the people came from he said that the way to find out where the earth came from and the people would be to be and astronaught above the earth when it was made. I pointed out that astronaughts didn't exist when the Earth was made which dented he realised dented his plans. I offered that time travel might work.

Or X is whatever the general consensus decide X to be. Everything is an agreement between holders of opinion. It's "an agreement between holders of opinion" that Bart Simpson solved the riddle of one hand clapping. |

I hope that in the near future the existence of the Christian god will no longer be worth discussion, or debate. Its not obvious that Jesus-the-supernatural-being doesn't exist, its fucking impossible (ie its as much of a fact that he doesn't as it is that I'm writing this post), but its a rather good way to illustrate the transitional phase our species is in right now. On the one side you have beings who still don't have a fucking clue, on the other side you have beings who may have a chance.

guys I've just recorded a single hand clap (my own hand) and I'm pleased to tell you the results: peak around 50Hz upon impact and a sweeping aftertouch going all the way up to 20kHz.

The point was its debatable. Is there at least some evidence that can't be disproven outside the bible?

Its the scholarly consensus that a man existed called Jesus who was a Jewish teacher & who attracted a small following of Galileans and, after a period of ministry, was crucified by the Romans in (Palestine) during the governorship of Pontius Pilate. What scholars/historians contest is the character of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospels - not whether or not a man called Jesus actually lived at that time. |
