I dunno, there's something seriously bittersweet about this whole Fitz story
I was glad to see the ending of the series really just so that the poor bastard could have his story wrapped up one way or the other. My most sookish moment was a few books ago, with a waking dream of Nighteyes going out hunting over a hill and not coming back *cries into reets rather girlish shirt* |

I kinda liked the fitz series by hobb, never read any more of her tho.
I like Jordan, been waiting on each of his books for about 5 years now as they come out (WoT). Anyone looking for a wierd but cool author, try China Meville. Kind of sci-fantasy. Wierd shit. |

Current shirt more than just a little girlish. :) Nighteyes bit was also sad... not a patch on the Fool bit though. He's easily my favourite character in the Hobb books. |

I found that if anyone interrupted me while I was reading any of the Fool's trilogy, I would promptly bite their head off, and be foul tempered towards them for the rest of the day.
No other books have made me be like that. Quite literally couldn't put it down. |

yeah.. well i finished fools fate in a weekend.. once i got back into her writing style the 1st person perspective just drags you into it.
Rather good to get that closure at the end of the book.. really satisfiing.. best set of 9 books i have read.. |

I'm finally reading the Farseer series atm anyone have advise which I should read next? The Liveship Traders? or the Tawny Man Trilogy?
I really want to read more about the fool as he's such a great character but will I miss out on some story continuation if I go straight to Tawny Man? I'm half way though Royal Assassin so no spoilers please. |

Read the thread! Geez.
Assassin, then Liveship Traders, then Tawny Man. I can also recommend George R. R. Martin. One of the few authors who can get you going "WTF? That makes sense, and it's in character for all involved, and it's great reading, but WHAT THE FUCK???" No "good-guys/bad-guys" crap - everyone of the major players is all too human, all capable of being both nice people and nasty pieces of work, and everything in between! I'm going to shut up now, before I start outlining the plots (there are several distinct plots masterfully interwoven in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series) It doesn't really even need the fantasy aspects with the dragons etc, but it is very well done. Right-o, shutting up.... |

For fans of Robin Hobb and GRR Martin, check out the short story anthology "Legends II" - has a short story from each of them

Uh, George R. R. Martin didn't write the Farseer (AKA Assassin) series Megan Lindholm(sp?) (AKA Robin Hobb) did - and I was talking about the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R. R. Martin for most of my previous post.
I didn't give ANY spoilers for the series' in the same realm as the "Farseer" trilogy, and the one VERY minor one that was in it regarding "Ice and Fire" can be found on the back cover blurb of one of the books. I mean, Oooh! A fantasy book that has dragons! Who woulda thunk it? Like I said - read the thread. My post includes part of the thread. Good boy. |

Yeah I saw this at Whitcoulls in Botany myself and did a bit of a double take.
Thinking I might just interrupt my current reading schedule (James Barclay) and leap onto it. |

I was going to pick it up, but I hate hardcover...they dont fit in my friggen man purse for starters..
Defiantely keen to read soon though. To carry on the thread from last year, I bought and read Liveship Traders and Tawny Man last / this year....very very good! Much better than Assasin if you ask me. |

The one I've seen here is a TPB - no hardcover version that I can see. Possibly still a little large for your man bag though
And you're right - some of the Assassin series seemed to wander, Tawny Man was much tighter. |

yeah, its not bad..finished it yesterday....
I like it, but not in a "man thats aweseom, go force people to read it" kind of way... It reminded me a bit of the Seafort Saga (if anyones read that), which is about a similar sort of character (self disciplinarian, milatary type). ..I must say , it is a bit of a depressing book, but it kept me reading all the way through.. some of the characters are quite good. |

So yeah, I woke up this morning *convinced* that the new book was out today. Turns out I was wrong, but it's due on sale July 2nd in the UK, which means we won't be far away.
There's a sample on her website for anyone interested. |

Ahhh yes, had so little to read lately. Also the start of a new Peter Hamilton trilogy in August too.

Hmm, I'm not sure I should have read that sample, now I want to keep reading the rest of the book. Bugger.

Sweet jesus Hobb writes some depressing shit, i read the first one but held off getting the second one & after reading that sample i reckon i was right to not to continue the series. Reminds me of that bloody Wally Lamb book in terms of tone.
