It most likely isn't holding anything on per se - so it isn't quite as a bad as it appears. Still a bit sloppy of the ground crew to miss it and, as with the Brazilian example, potentially very dangerous.

Plane part on farm not ours says Air NZ

do pilots these days do a quick visual of check the aircraft themselves? or do they totally rely on engineers to do pre-flight inspections and so long as all the boxes are ticked just jump in the aicraft, check lights and go?
