AOC display units - tell me about them...

Ok - I see several places are doing specials on AOC 42" Plasma screens (around $3K incl gst) - and I note that several of the users here have AOC monitors - any experiences good/bad that I should know about before investigating further?

/edit Hmm - resolution isn't as good as the Hyundai ones...

Ok - how bad is a Sanyo PDP42XS1 ?

Looks like the same panel but rebadged - although the contrast ratio is considerably higher.

Unfortunately, the quality of AOC LCDs (like the LM727) tells you nothing whatever about the quality of their plasmas (which StN is looking at). Ah, the wonders of OEM'd panels.

StN: Got a model number on the AOC plasma? I can't find anything at all for the Sanyo one you mention. (The contrast ratio difference probably just means AOC are using dodgier methods to measure it; that's usually the case with people claiming 3000:1 or 5000:1 ratios...) As a rule, though, cheap plasmas usually look it, unless things have improved a lot recently.

Sold one to my uncle thru work about a year ago, had an issue about a week ago, some lady came out and helped him take it off the wall and put a new one up all within 48 hours

the panel itself is not too bad in quality, a bit slow but for 42" can kinda be expected, its inbuilt auto zoom feature its frigging annoying till you get used to it but once you do its ok

overall for the money its actually not too bad, however you get what you pay for

if its any indication im not buying one of these plasma's, instead im buying an LG 42" lcd :P

Dunno if this helps you but I bought an AOC crt oldschool monitor 5+ years ago from an NZG'er and It's still going strong as my secondary monitor, my main is an AOC lcd which I've also had for a fair few years now and haven't had a single problem with either.

Dunno if the same reliability can be stretched to TV's, but that's my input~

Used a few AOC monitors over the years, they are cheap, but reliable.
Never had any major issue with them.
