Sad kanji question...

does anybody here know any kanji? or know of anybody that does?

see,i sat down one afternoon and did some arty stuff.
(samurai-girl in "lazy" stance if your interested )

but before i finish it, i want to get the kanji for "samurai" and if possible have the vowel sound "ahh" added to the end, or at least an appropriate version of it, so it would translate as something close to "samurai'a"

(which is what i decided to title the picture... in ink, before i bothered to stop and think about it.)

any help would be appreciated!!

cool, kinda.

but isnt there also a way to do it phonetically (sp?)

like the way my name would go from "chris" to "korysu" or something similar... then i could add the "ahh" on the end without getting a headache

i should probably traul around "foreign language student" sites.

because i dont know what the hell im talking about really.

Has chris bought DoW yet? If he hasn't, tell him he sucks. Cocks.

And get him to send me his email and msn alias to my cell. I have no credit

i have no fear of the out of doors.
but i do have a problem with random people initiating a conversation that innevitably leads to their proposition that i present them with a pair of scissors so that they may then preform fellatio upon then.

after it happened a few times, i justifiably decided all ICQ users were freaks.

I know *some* Kanji, but I've been taking Japanese for a little over a month, so you know, I'm not too sure.

a quick google turned up Http://japanese.about.com/bl50kanji_samurai.htm as the first result. *edit* oh right, someone posted this as the second post, soz.

As for adding the "ahh" sound, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think you can add another Kanji to put an "ahh" on the end, Kanji are more "meaning" orientated, e.g. the same kanji will have many diff pronunciations depending on what word it's used in, and adding another Kanji would change the meaning, so it may be pronounced as you want, but the meaning will be different. The Kana (hiragana and katakana) indicate pronunication. So if you just wanted to add an A on the end, you could use a hirigana a or katakana a, let me know if you want to know what these characters look like.

Hopefully someone who actually knows what they're talking about will read this thread...

^^yes! were starting to move in the right direction!

i might just be barking up, not just the wrong tree, but possibly not even a tree at all.

see this is what you get when you try to be clever and attempt to make wordplay cross the laguage barrier....

i geuss all i really nead is an indicator somwhere in the kanji for samurai that would give the word a feminine slant.

hey stil, what was the site you used to host the pic again?

You would use either Hiragana and Katakana. To spell it out.

Hiragana is used to write exlusivly Japanese only words. Katakana is used for writing foriegn words or in advertising.

I recommend using Katakana for your drawing as it looks much cooler (hence why its used in advertising) and is easier to draw/write.

Basically double letter sounds make up one character (except for vowls and a couple others).

There is 52ish of them but really there is upto 100+ depending how you look at it. Both Hiragana and Katakana use the exact same sounds but just write the sound differently (a few exceptions of course).

Anyways just do a simple search for a basic table. But the ones you are looking for are

Sa
mu
ra
i
a

So you would need six Characters.

Alternatly you could just use the Kanji for Samurai and add the double vowl A to the end using kata or hira.

Pretty easy really. If you write in Katakana to extend the vowl sound you use kinda like a hyphen after the character for a. As a long vowl sound for the A in Japanese would sound exactly like ahh.

I don't have japanese characters installed on work PC otherwise Id post it up for you.

This table is pretty good.

http://www.sf.airnet.ne.jp/~ts/japanese/table_k.html

And heres one for Hiragana

http://www.sf.airnet.ne.jp/~ts/japanese/table.html

Note double vowls for Hiragana are just writen twice you don't use the dash.
