a little kid (10-11) is being looked after by dad today (he has had a bad upbringing or something).

i'm sitting on the computer reading NZG and this guy knocks on my door and comes in & asks if i have any flying games.

as i'm trying to set up the joystick for flight sim 2002, he's looking through all my stuff (old car stereos etc) saying 'wow whats this' 'wow look at the motor'

picks up my mobile, says 'i found a $600 phone on the road'

picks up my mp3 cd player 'i found one of these in the creek it was all rusted tho'

picks up my old watch 'i think i found one of these'

by the time i'd set up the joystick and set up flight sim etc, he's found my steering wheel, and now wants to play a racing game
spent the last hour playing f1 challenge

For those of you who don't know what a MUD is, it's a big text adventure with 100 odd people playing at the same time. The one I play is themed on Tolkien, and you can't choose character names such as 'Frodo' or 'Sauron' for obvious reasons.

But for some reason, we discovered a bug which led to the restricted names being unrestricted. Me and some other guys went around creating guys such as Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Shelob, Eru, Sauron, Ringwraith, Guard and Tolkien and went to a very common waypoint-like room and got ourselves killed. 100 people crowded in at the bree signpost to see the corpses of some of tolkien's most famous creations, including immortal gods, and tolkien himself.

I guess you kinda had to be there.

Ok, so I'm just sitting here right, reading all this, and the next thing you know my cat starts walking on the keyboard. It somehow manages to bring up system properties and all this shit so I'm like "Gettoff!" and I push the cat away. About 5 mins later, I'm talking to a friend over Trillian and cat starts walking on keyboard again and manages to type out 'kitn'. Now is that close to the work kitten or what?

Maybe not.

The docs went from thinking I have partial hearing loss (I've had hearing problems since I was a toddler), to having the exact opposite, hyperacusis. I'm uber sensitive to noise, especially rustling shopping bags, they are one of the noises that actually cause pain...

I can still hear the telly squealch. If i walk into an office, and there's a telly on somewhere (like muted or something), i know its in there before i see it. One thing i hate is old computer monitors where people turn off their pc, but dont realise their monitor doesnt turn off with it....
