Cool Amazing Experiences

Yesterday I went diving for the first time, well snorkling...

It was amazing, we went around the rocks in Breaker Bay and even though I was kind of scared that sharks would eat me I went anyway. It pretty much has opened a whole new world of recreation for me, and now I'm going to go as often as I can.

I don't think I saw any nasties in the water but if I did I would of not been to scared as I was carrying a 30cm knife in my hand.

Highlights:

Being able to see very clearly up to 8m visibility underwater.
Looking at all the fishes and big crabs

Lowlights:

Tasting seawater through my snorkel when the wave went into my snorkel.
Trying to talk underwater and failing.
Getting my hand cut to pieces on the barnacle covered rocks.

I just thought i'd share my amazing experience to see if anybody else has amazing experiences

Well it was a few years ago, havn't been out there for a while, but i'm sure its still sweet

I had an amazing experience last night. I was watching television, and something compelled me to look around the room. As I looked around the room i noticed something weird about the corner of the new leather couch. I got up from my seated position, walked over to study the corner of the couch more closely. My eyes were about a foot away when I realised that the cat had been using the corner of the new couch as a scratching post. Then I shrugged, scratched my arse, and sat back down to watch television again.

Crabsticks are by far inferior, NOTHING compares to fresh crayfish. If u like prefrozen, packaged 60% chemical crabsticks* you'll LOVE crayfish, garantueed.

The easiest way to get a crayfish is to grab them by the back. Can be hard if they are stuck in some hole in the rock.
My solution; Grab the bastard by his feller thingies(as close to his head as u can, WEAR GLOVES) and pull the bastard out
Remember to chuck back the mummy ones.

Yeah it could be awhile till I get the chance to grab one because im only diving on the south coast and our south coast is pretty raped of anything remotely edible

We weren't staying in a big hotel. we were living all 12 of us, plus 3 teachers in a one bedroom church hall, about 5m x 10m.
Living with the mozzies, and the centipedes, and the cockroaches.
But we got to visit the local colleges and made great friends with all of the students. Played games against them: touch, volleyball, basketball, went to their school social. Spent Easter Sunday at the local church, listening to their powerful voices and feasting as invited guests each night. Man when the cook islanders put on a feed they do an awesome job. Each night of the 12 we were there a different group turned up to the hall with so much food, which made us feel so welcome.

great learning experience

crabsticks are made out of freshwater fish, not crab or crayfish.

Yeah its like the same sort of principal as salami aint it, they chop all the bits up and make it into surimi for crabsticks.

I knew it was fish, just didn't realise it was freshwater fish

You're in luck Invader Val! Pluck realised the demand for threads about MSN chicks, and has made another thread today which is aptly titled More Internet Chicks

*looks again*... ahh! Missed by that much.

Okay, here we go.

I was walking late one night, or early one morning to be precise, as I often do. It's very peaceful. I saw this pinpoint of light and watched as it rapidly grew larger until became this huge haze of white light. I stood there, basking in it's glow and thought "Oh my god IT'S THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST!"
Then I realised it was a car coming towards me, so I got off the road.

*fart*

Yep. Goat's Island is an amazing place to dive/snorkel. It's a marine reserve where people go and feed the fish. Hence there is a huge fish population in close. I've seen all sorts of fish there, even saw a kingfish going past at like 40 knots.

Not sure if he's still there but there was a big freaking stingray that hung about near the underwater rock (not the island), scared the crap out of me but he's quite friendly aparantly

If you haven't been there, it freaking rocks.

Having been tank diving with sharks in Fiji, i'll just tell you that your 30cm knife would do sweet fuck all if he really wanted to eat you. :\

a few years back (i was form2 i think, maybe 3) me & my dad & my sister used to go to the clutha river every day after school. went snorkelling, that was excellent... getting real deep etc.

dad has a whole lot of diving gear (tanks etc), & i just asked him if he could take me diving. he says the gear would need to be checked before he used it again (hasn't been used in about 5 years)... but we could go to the local swimming pool for a wee go.

i've been diving in the pool before, years ago.... i remember it took a bit to get used to being able to breath under water.
