speaking of difficult to read:
there i a book I have often browsed and been meaning to read since childhood... but have never felt quite ready for it until now. Its unlike any novel I have never seen the grammar is unconventional and distorted to such an extent that i think most nzgames readers would put it down before the first page ended but personally I think every line will be an experience to be savoured I've started reading 'Finnegans Wake' by James Joyce

But American psycho is difficult because of the content, not the writing style I started reading Ulysses a few years ago, that was hard
I just read Do androids dream of electric sheep by Philip K. Dick. It was great. Blade Runner is significantly different from it though. |

The first book is the best of the three but they're all worth reading. |

Have any of you read the comic series "The Boys" ? Similar to the Watchmen, just a lot more adult orientated and a far better feel in my view.

Eh, sounds gay.
(going strictly off the title; the comic may be very good)

Just hammered through "The First Law" trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Last book was unfortunately rather disappointing as it feels like it needs another book after it. But apparently the author is writing more books for that universe.
Also reading the Ashes of Worlds - the last of Kevin Anderson - should finish that in a day or two. Finished Joe Hardemans Forever War and Forever Free. Definately preferred the first book. Apparently there's a 3rd but I've no time. Also polished Old Mans War which I also enjoyed. His sequel "The Ghost Brigade" was also quite an interesting read. Haven't read the direct sequel yet (The Last Colony) but time oh precious time. On a side note - I pretty much read every David Gemmell book available in the last 6 months. Pretty similar stories everywhere - but I enjoyed it. "Legend" is his best book though - so if you want sample it start there. Also read Chris Bunch's "Seer King" trilogy. Entertaining and fulfilling myself - but I like the rags to riches and fights the tyrant such books. Also slowly studying Derin Browns "Tricks of the Mind" as my first serious book in a while. Have decided that I'm going to move into Non-fiction books for a while - or at worst magazines such as New Scientist and Time. It's about time I started becoming a bit more informed about things and less about morality and personal stories/triumph in fiction... |

After starting Atlas Shrugged, and finding it... dry... I've gone back to read some more Dune. I'm only on the second book, though I'm not liking it as much as the first one. It feels like there's a lot less happening, and from the first one I enjoyed the 'unfolding' of the prophesies that Paul and his mother were fulfilling, and the Harkonnen side of the story. So far Dune Messiah has pretty much been Maud'dib being emo about causing the jihad. (although we've been introduced of the Face Dancers and Ghola, so that's been nice)
I know from reading a whole lot of wiki after finishing the first one that the other books span a lot longer after Paul's reign, so I'm hoping they manage to hold my interest long enough to get through to the one that the authors son wrote (which I understand I am not supposed to enjoy). Also, didn't the Matrix so rip off the Butlerian jihad? Man they stole just everything for those movies...

I read it over the course of abut 2 days when down in Dunners for a wedding(I usually take... months... to read anything (I'm only up to HP 4 and the start of the second System of the World books...) I found it to be highly engaging, and would recommend it to anyone that grew up in a more 'anti-social' circles. Also read while I was down there, Gunslingers by Hugh Laurie. It's a bit clunky but certainly got heaping helpings of his ironic wit keeping things entertaining.

Although I will grant that books two and three aren't as easy reads as Dune, the last three contain much that is awesome (God Emperor, Heretics and Chapter house). If you really can't stand books 2 and 3 you can skip straight to God Emperor, it contains enough to fill in the back story by inference. Oh, and Brian Herbert is the Antichrist and Kevin Anderson is his putrescent, red-eyed hack writing steed.
