Jenza: any time line on those new lenses? I'm due to spring for another six months worth and if there is new stuff about I'm game to try it

Mine have a weirdly off-centre angled cut. I don't think I could go back to glasses now, the vision correction is soooo much better with contacts. The world is no longer "squashed" like with glasses.
I would be really keen to get some throw aways. I spend $570 on a pair every second year but towards the end they get a bit shady.. |

Purevision for teh win.
Went to the optometrist yesterday, tried two different brands of the breathable kind, one in each eye, Purevision and Focus9. The Focus9 felt like someone had just flicked sand into my eye, after about 10 mins it wasn't so bad but still uncomfortable. Purevision, I honestly couldn't tell I had them in. Going back on Thursday, have to take them out every night except for Wednesday night then she will check them, making sure my eyes don't mind them in overnight. If that goes ok then will leave them in for a week, again check, then a month. I also have a very slight astigmatism in each eye, they didn't have Purevision in stock for that but will try them on Thursday. She said sometimes the ones for astigmatism aren't as comfortable so might not be worth it to correct the last 10% of my vision. Thanks for the help guys. |

Hrm.
Got mine today.. Long range is good, but i feel like my short range has reduced significantly (only put them in about an hour ago) Strange thing is, i'm sure my short range was fine all friday when i was testing them out.. Is it just my eyes getting used to them (ive always just focused on short range, now ive got short and long.. a tricky thing for my eyes to get used to) or am i fucked. |

My dad always taught me to read with my cheek on my fist and my elbow on my book - apparently that's as close as you should get to material you need to focus on for any period. I don't have any loss of accuity at that range, and don't have any trouble with fine work at closer range, so it's not a biggie for me. |

I've noticed the same thing, when looking at something close (ie reading a book) I kinda have to 'think' about focusing my eyes, otherwise it becomes a blurred mess. I'm seeing the optometrist again on Thursday, will talk to her about it. Maybe my eyes are still adjusting...
edit - Chiq, pretty sure I'm not just too close, but will check. Also noticed that bright objects (mainly lights) have a bit of a halo around them. Thought that was a laser eye surgery problem... Last edited by [BT]Monza : 4th July 2005 at 18:48. |

The first thing i noticed was that lightbulbs etc were as sharp as day.
Normally they're a fuzzy mess of light, now i can actually see the bulb :] I'm sticking with the "price you pay" and "getting used to them" at the moment.. it's not horribly bad, just as Monza said, it's just taking a second to actually focus on it |

shitty week
So contacts have been the win for a couple of months or so I thought. One day out of the blue in only the second week of usage for the pair my right eye gets very itchy and vision is fucked. Once I arrive to work (yeah, driving on the motorway was fun...) I look in the mirror and see that every time I blink the right contact slides about half way up and then stay there, hence the fucked vision. I take it out and for about an hour afterwards my right eye felt a bit itchy. I left my contact in solution overnight and tried again to wear it the next day, this time I was fine until the afternoon, then again with the pulling half way up eyeball. Next day I tried a brand new contact, within a few hours same problem. FUCK!
Did some googling, looks like my right eye has GPC. Rang OPSM, and saw the optometrist, and sure enough GPC. She wants me to see a retina specialist to get it correctly treated. The retina specialist is fully booked for two weeks but I make appointment. So see him yesterday, in the meantime I have only been wearing contact in left eye, surprising how the brain copes with only one decent eye. He can't find anything at all wrong with the right eye, but is quite concerned about a cloudy patch that he has found in my LEFT EYE! He says it is a very small infection, most defiantly caused by wearing contacts. He prescribes some antibiotic eye drops that I have to take every two hours, then he drops the bombshell, he doesn't want me wearing contacts at all, ever again. He says some people just are not suited to wearing contacts; the eyeball just doesn't like it, so flares up all the time. In my case the reaction was strong enough to be noticed by OPSM in their month long checks but it is still there, probably aggravated by my hayfever. After having the freedom of contacts (or more accurately the freedom of not having glasses) for 4 months, I really really don't want to go back to wearing glasses, so yesterday made a appointment to see if I am a suitable candidate for LASIK eye surgery. I was always planning on laser eye surgery but thought I would wear contacts for a while until I saved up enough to pay for it out right, plans change. |

Dude, that sucks. My wife has contacts but has actually gone back to glasses after developing a bit of constant irritation to them (although she will wear contacts when the occasion suits). Thankfully I only have to wear my glasses very infrequently.
Good luck on the Lasik, hope it works out. |

It really sucks for you, Monza, sounds like you really got into the freedom of contacts! But honestly, I think a guy in frames looks good, so if you're bummed about having to wear glasses for cosmetic reasons, then don't |

Glasses for work - not enough blinking in front of the pc + Air Con = dry crack hoe eyes.
Daily disposables for outside of work - 2 weeklys are ok as long as you have a good routine for cleaning the lenses - i.e washing your hands when you come home from the pub/kebab house. |

God that sucks for you dude. I have only ever had contacts (since the beginning of this year) and really couldn't imagine getting glasses.
Although I was over wearing my contacts (monthlys wearing them for well over a month - 2, 3 months maybe... :I) and it cause some cornea (or retina - can't remember) staining. Needless to say I'm changing every month on the month now. :E |

I've used www.clearlycontacts.co.nz for a while now, they seem cheap/fast enough.
OK, when ordering lenses online, what lifetime do you assume they have? are they monthly ones, weekly, daily? If they don't say, is there a standard?

I've used both www.binary.co.nz/lens.html and www.clearlycontacts.co.nz. Both times lenses came with no problems. Clearlycontacts is faster, and they send them out before you have even paid (you can pay after you recieve them). My O2 optix lenses were ~100$ for a year, compared to $280 for 6 months from the optometrist.

I've ordered from Clearlycontacts before, took about a month or so to get here. Ordered the same lot again. No word for about two weeks, then i see the money go out of my credit card account. (With a suprise currency conversion charge) Still no contacts. Month later, Still no contacts. Then yesterday I notice my credit card account was in credit, sure enough, I'd been credited back the money, minus about 20 bucks. (Exchange rate difference of 11 bucks, Currency conversion charge of 5 the first time, 5 the second time, curse you National Bank) Turns out whatever courier they used down this way couldn't find my address so they sent it back overseas. :x I don't care too much about the price discrepancy but the two months with no contact was more than enough to peeve me off :P Any other recommended places to get contacts from? Preferably actually IN nz instead of just using a .nz domain name.

I got mine from ClearlyContacts. No real hassles but the email address they wanted me to send my prescription to bounced, but even then they still sent me the contacts. Did make the whole operation look a little amateurish.
