Might it be because it's actually *gasp* true? Just look at all the threads here on road funding.
Whenever someone raises the sensible point that while Auckland has nearly 1/3 of the country's population but has never received funding remotely commensurate with that level, people just launch into the "Fuck Auckland!!" crap. In short, there's as much hate on both sides.
